Dear Parents/Guardians:

A new school year is here and I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you all to Elmer Elementary School.  We are excited to have you as partners in your child’s education. Here at Elmer Elementary, we strive to provide our students with many worthwhile learning opportunities, which will help them, grow and mature into well-rounded 1st and 2nd grade students.

I encourage you to read over all our school policies and procedures that will be coming home the first day of school in your child’s first day folders.  Our student handbook is a great resource for information on topics such as arrival and dismissal procedures, cafeteria information, attendance, and much more

Author Spotlight:  Each month we will spotlight different authors, thus giving our students at Elmer exposure to all types of authors and literature.  During our assembly, we have guest readers choose a story to share by our spotlighted author.  This is a tradition we will continue this school year.  I encourage you to take every opportunity to read with your children each an every day.  Whether it’s a magazine, newspaper, novel or other type of literature, reading is the key to unlocking a child’s imagination.  A quote to consider . . . “Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.” - Margaret Fuller

Reminder:  PTO Meetings will be held throughout this school year.   The PTO graciously sponsors our field trips, school assemblies, and much more.  Come out to get involved and informed.

We will celebrate School Spirit Days on the first Friday of each month; show your Elmer Pride by wearing your blue and white.

Constitution Day: Celebrated on the 17th day of September, Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by thirty-nine brave men on September 17, 1787, recognizing all who, are born in the U.S. or by naturalization, have become citizens.  We will have an assembly, which will highlight the Preamble to the Constitution as well as us forming our own Elmer Elementary School Constitution.  For more information on Constitution Day, please visit www.constitutionday.com .  (Constitution Day will be recognized on Friday, September 16th)

School Pictures will take place on Wednesday, October 4th.  Information about ordering will be forthcoming.  Mark your calendars!

The children will go outside everyday for recess as the weather permits.  Please dress children appropriately for any kind of weather condition as well as for the use of our playground equipment.  Our goal is to keep students safe and comfortable during this important time in their school day.

Our goal at Elmer Elementary School is to provide all students with the opportunity to succeed in all their many school experiences.  I look forward to working with you this school year. Together, we will make it a great year!
