Intervention & Referral Services/ W.I.N

Cooperative efforts between teachers, parents, and additional professional personnel are often needed to provide the most effective help to students in need of assistance.  The Elmer Elementary School’s Intervention and Referral Service (I&RS) provides additional support for children who struggle either academically, behaviorally, or with a health concern.  Through the efforts of this team of professional educators, a plan can be developed to provide this assistance to your child.

W.I.N. What I Need
At Elmer Elementary School we continually challenge our students to grow academically.  In order to meet the academic needs of all we hav instituted a W.I.N. (What I Need) period at Elmer Elementary School for both Kindergarten and First Grades.  Students will visit with different teachers/practitioner 4 days a week for 25 minutes. This provides them with additional time to work on improving skills necessary to enriching areas of strength for educational success.  Those students who are in need of intervention will be identified through a screening process.  Parents/guardians will be notified if your child(ren) will receive intervention, otherwise they will follow an enrichment schedule.
W.I.N. will be broken up into three intervention cycles and five enrichment cycles. For example, during intervention students will work on math or literacy skills depending on their individual needs.  An example of an enrichment cycle for First Grade and Kindergarten would be Author Study.  Students will cycle through 5 enrichment cycles.  Kindergarten will not begin W.I.N. until Cycle II.  Students will be receiving classroom support from their classroom teacher during Cycle I. W.I.N.
